About the role

  • Utilise your exceptional Media and Communications skills to lead and develop communications for SunSmart, the most iconic cancer prevention program in Australia.

  • Ongoing, Part time 0.8 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent).

We are seeking a passionate and driven Media and Communications Advisor to join the Communications team within the Prevention Division. The key aim of the position is to lead the successful planning, implementation, and evaluation of media and communications strategies for the SunSmart program. Reporting to the Senior Communications Advisor, your role is to:

  • Lead the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of SunSmart’s media and communications strategies as outlined in SunSmart’s strategic and annual business plans and in collaboration with the wider SunSmart team.
  • Manage the translation of health evidence and messaging and engage consumer stories.
  • Manage the writing of media releases, resources, articles, letters, and opinion pieces for relevant internal and external publications.
  • Manage and monitor SunSmart-owned social media channels.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives and contribute to public awareness and understanding of prevention programs.
  • Support the Senior Media Advisor in handling media briefings.

All about you

Utilise your industry experience and out-of-the-box thinking to drive the media and communication strategies for the most recognised cancer prevention program in Australia. Your strong media and relationship management experience will be pivotal in achieving successful outcomes at Cancer Council Victoria.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Relevant tertiary degree in communications, public relations, or another relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating media and communication strategies/campaigns, including advertising, public relations, and digital.
  • Highly developed media relations skills, including a thorough understanding of the process of conducting a media interview from briefing through to execution, and a comprehensive understanding of traditional and new media.
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships, as well as communicate and negotiate effectively with a wide range of individuals and organisations.
  • Strong communication and writing skills with the ability to present information simply and clearly in written and verbal forms.
